Isolated Connectivity Issue – Surescripts network

Updated: March 3, 2024, 12:32 pm EST

Surescripts is currently experiencing a service disruption due to their vendor (Change Health) going through a cyber security incident. Currently, there is no security impact to the DoseSpot network, and this does not impact the security of DoseSpot ePrescribing services.

Real-Time Prescription Benefit data is now continuing to flow through DoseSpot, even for patients with Optum plans.

Impact:

Recommended Actions:

For EPCS prescriptions, we recommend directing to a different pharmacy other than Change Health pharmacies.

A message regarding ePrescribing errors:

Surescripts is still working to restore EPCS service for all pharmacies connected through Change Healthcare (CHC) and advises EHR vendors and health systems to download an updated pharmacy file nightly. We are not able to provide a list of these locations because we are not connected to CHC.

Although the cyber security attack through CHC did not compromise or impact the DoseSpot ePrescribing solution, errors are being reported when providers try to prescribe controlled substances through CHC pharmacies. Most broadly reported is an error that reads, “The drug is scheduled, but the pharmacy cannot process EPCS medications.” This is a result of EPCS transmissions being blocked through CHC pharmacies.

Here are other message types to look for:

If you have an ePrescription that is timing out, they will sometimes default to fax. Please keep in mind, EPCS prescriptions cannot be transmitted by fax. Those scripts will return a failed fax if the pharmacy still supports that mode of delivery.

We will continue to update this page until the issue is fully resolved.
